Meet the Design Team
Have you ever wondered who the talented crafters are who make some of the amazing samples you see on our website and Create and Craft TV? Well here they are – meet the fabulous members of our design team…
Hello I`m Alison
I have been crafting since I could hold a pair of scissors making things from cardboard & sellotape and flowers from tissue & pipe cleaners as a small child.
It wasn’t until I found Create and Craft while on my 1st maternity 15 years ago that I started making cards for friends and family.
I have 3 children and have enjoyed making decorations etc for their parties, and then 18 months ago I was over the moon to be asked to make invites and decorations for my big sisters wedding, and when that was completed my younger sister announced her wedding where along with the invites and decorations I also made the bouquets and button holes. This was made so much easier with my ScanNcut, medal dies and My Craft Studio cd`s.
I started looking into home decor and gifts and purchased the Screen Sensation kit in August 2018, and when I saw the opportunity to join the Design Team in September 2018 I decided to push myself and have a go … I couldn’t believe my luck when I was offered a trial and its had been a great experience so far, helping me to push myself and try new things and use products I have purchased over the years and long may it continue…. any excuse to craft.
I am one of the lucky ones who was taught sewing at school. Although my first project was simple I was hooked immediately. I completed ‘A’Levels in textiles and moved on to the now DeMontfort University, Leicester. I am a qualified Textile and Knitwear garment technologist.
I took a career break to raise my three wonderful children and when the youngest started school, I returned to my career working for the country’s leading re-upholsterer and soft furnishing manufacturer as their fabric buyer, for 18 years.
Whilst I loved my job and it gave me the opportunity to work with textiles it was not creative enough, so I left 4 years ago to start my own small Etsy shop, designing and making bespoke children’s clothes in the finest of fabrics. I also teach several wonderful sewing groups.
About 18 months ago I saw a shout out on Facebook from Create & Craft for demonstrators, I applied and sent some photos of my work. Last January, I attended a screen test and since then have demonstrated sewing on many live shows and made various commissions and blogs. Although sewing is my first love I adore all crafts working with textiles, when I saw a call out for members of the design team for Screen Sensation I knew I just had to apply. I was frilled to be asked to join this wonderful group of people and work with the fabulous screens and was delighted when asked to demonstrate on several of the live shows.
I also blog for Craft Cotton Co. fabrics and have recently helped them launch their new fabric range, Miffy.
I was also the guest demonstrator on the ScanNCut CM800Q at Bolton Live.
I have several social media platforms, Bernadette Wainwright Little Miss Sewing on Facebook and LittleMissDressCo on Instagram both of which have growing numbers of followers.
My name is Deborah Underhill and I am a fashion designer with a passion for photography, art and all things craft related. I have been on the design team since September 2018 and love it! I adore the process of creating something unique whether that be for my friends, family or clients.
I own my own business and am a social media influencer, my sewing page Just Sew features over 118,000 members who also love to craft, using a variety of different media including fabrics, quilting, sewing and much more.
I have two puppies, Jeffrey and Jemima, I am married with no children. Having recently purchased a caravan I cant wait to craft in the sun whilst out caravanning.
I’ve been creative for as long as I can remember, in my teens it was cake decorating, which gave me a career as a tutor, judge and my own wedding cake business. When scrapbooking came along 20 years ago I loved all things papercraft but life got in the way until 2017 when I found my love for crafting again, this time with mixed media. In August 2018 I first saw Screen Sensation on C&C and thought I’d love to have a go so bought my starter kit as a birthday present to myself. I was hooked! I applied for the design team when the call came in a few weeks later, and was lucky to be selected and I’ve been producing samples ever since and absolutely adore the system. Being on the design team has pushed me outside of my comfort zone on occasions, but that’s what I love about being part of it and of course I love seeing my work on the show.
Hi I’m Louise, I live in Aberdeen with my partner and our 2 boys. I’ve been part of the screen sensation design team for nearly 6 months now and I’m loving being able to use the screen designs across a wide range of mediums. When not doing screen sensation projects, you’ll find me in my craft room making cards and various upcycling projects for Create and Craft as I’m one of their contributors. It’s so rewarding when I see my designs on air knowing that hopefully they’ll inspire other crafters to have a go themselves.
My name is Maria Lawton, I live in Hampshire, near Southampton. I have been on the Screen Sensation design team since last September and absolutely LOVE it. I have always been arty and trained as a primary art teacher. I now paint and sell commissions, mostly acrylics and watercolours and love textiles, mixed media and creating new projects with my screen sensation. My Facebook page is Moggymeezart.
My name is Michelle Leighton, I live in Nottingham, I am married and a mum to four grown up children. I work full time in a primary school as a teaching assistant and one to one support for Autistic children. This role can be very challenging and also very rewarding. I have been a card crafter for many years . As most crafters I dabble in many different crafts. Card, quilting, sewing and screen printing. The first time I did any screen printing is about eight years ago. This started my passion in screen printing. When Screen Sensation were release 2 years ago I were one of the first to order the kit, I also won a competition to spend the day with Hels Sheridan and Wendy learning techniques about screen printing, I couldn’t wait to explore screen printing in my own home, not only as part of my own crafts, but also teaching children and adults the art of screen printing. In September 2018 I have had the privilege of joining the design team I am loving every moment of it.
I’m 44 3/4 and live in Dorset with my 4 cats (yes I’m a crazy cat lady). My day job is a Quality Manager for an engineering company
I have been part of the screen sensation DT since just after the launch in 2017 and have also recently joined the Rare Earth DT too.
Screen sensation was my first DT and got my place on the team all because one night my car broke down on the way to a party! Missed the party but got home ok and was all fed up so I got the screen sensation out and printed wisdom. The screen sensation Facebook page had a show and tell so I posted the picture and next day had won the competition – and the rest as they say is history!
Being part of DT has totally changed my life and I still get excited to see my samples on the telly.
Being arty runs in my family with my late grandad, auntie, sister, cousin and nephews all having an artistic streak. My auntie Diann is my crafty partner in crime, we often craft together (usually with wine) and take our crafty bits away with us when we go camping in Cornwall.
I got back into crafting in 2016 after a break of about 15 years, starting with die cutting and quilting but this quickly progressed into mixed media art and usually in bright bold colours. My favourite style are gothic, fantasy and steampunk – and of course anything with cats (was really happy to have my cat Ziva turned into a screen for the MYOS launch)
Would have never thought back in 2016 i’d be doing what I’m doing now on the DT’s! Just shows what you can do if you put your mind to it!
My name is Pippa Eaves, Wife and Mum and Nana to 9 grandchildren. I love all kinds of crafts. I have been crafting as far back as I can remember in one form or another from crochet, knitting, card making to jewellery making, list goes on. 12 months ago I started screen printing using Screen Sensation and I love it. I couldn’t quite believe it when I was sent my first screens as part of the design team and was even more stunned when later two of my samples were photographed for use on screen packaging, wow. I Love Screen Sensation, I’m hooked.
I am 39, live in Scunthorpe, I am married with 2 children aged 19 and 10. Have 2 cats they are totally crazy but so loveable. My day job, I work as a kitchen assistant in primary schools.
I first got into crafting when I was a child, taking after my grandma I used to do some crochet but don’t do a lot of that now, I used to love making cards when I was younger with pre-cut toppers etc, took after my mum and auntie for that.
My auntie died almost 2 years ago now and my uncle gave me my aunties scan n cut machine and everyday since then I have used the scan n cut to make anything and everything I can, I absolutely love crafting.
There was call for the design team for the Cutting Craftorium, so I decided to apply for it and then in February 2018 I got an email asking me if I wanted to do some samples for the next Cutting Craftorium USB, I was so excited.
I have recently joined the Screen Sensation design team, I absolutely love every minute of it and never even thought I would get on the design team, it is a dream come true.
